SIC ‘Esperança’, or ‘Hope’, is a relief organization that is part of the major Portuguese television and media company Sociedade Independente de Comunicação.
After the forest fire, SIC Esperança straight away started a nation wide fund raising initiative “Um Abraço a Portugal”, a hug for Portugal. Goal was to provide roofs for as many of the vitctims as possible. In total, approximately € 855,000 was donated by individuals and companies, including a large donation by Impresa, the parent company of SIC.
SIC Esperança’s intention to rebuild our house is sincere, but the planning is jerking along (see blog September 6th) to our alternating great hope and matching disappointment. But now something seems to be coming about; a budget has been set to the amount of € 75,000 (ex VAT). So now issues such as what can be built for that money, when building could start, and wether the new house should be put up in exactly the same spot, have to be addressed. Anyhow, we are drawing up plans of how we envisage our new home.
Tentatively we allow ourselves new ‘Hope’ for a house.
